For Individual Artists

Eleanor Huggins, Freelance Artist

"Taking part in Savvy’s artistic development programme has been an amazing experience! I’ve always been interested in running workshops/ facilitation and having the opportunity to observe these workshops in action has been incredibly eye-opening to the importance of inclusive and creative opportunities for young people within the community. The team are super friendly and supportive, and it’s been so much fun to work with everyone!"

Every year, SAVVY hosted a 3-day training programme, open to early/mid-career artists who were keen to work with us in the future, and/or who:

  • wanted to further develop their co-creation skills as a facilitator and/or director

  • were keen to learn more about SAVVY's inclusive pedagogy

Artists needed to have a proven interest and some experience in facilitating and/or directing.

The training took place during the Spring term at our  SAVVY Studio  at Fairfield Halls in Croydon.

During the training artists would:

  • Practically explore SAVVY Theatre's inclusive methodology of working with people who have a variety of communication difficulties, disabilities and young people with SEMH needs.

  • Learn how we co-create and shape our shows to encourage ownership of the work and raise to ambitious levels of professionalism with community casts.

  • Have the opportunity to work alongside our Core Team as part of our weekly programme.

How much did it cost?

It didn't cost anything.  In fact, we paid the artists!

We offered £50 per/day to cover general out-of-pocket expenses.
