SAVVY is committed to nurturing the next generation of theatre makers and advocating for an inclusive, accessible industry by providing training and mentoring for existing members of our Take Part programme and artists/organisations working in the wider culture sector.
In addition to our specialist Artist Development programmes, SAVVY continues to provide a range of professional development opportunities for members of our Take Part programme, with workshops and masterclasses in areas such as lighting design, playwriting, stage combat and puppetry. We have also supported members to take part in other programmes with organisations including Graeae, Frantic Assembly, Access All Areas and the National Theatre.
As a lead organisation for Croydon's 2023 Borough of Culture, we will be focus on supporting new work by d/Deaf and disabled artists, and the wider cultural community, keen to develop and share best practise when it comes to working inclusively.
“SAVVY accepts members for who they are and adapts scripts, scenes and shows to members abilities to make them shine”
The So You Want To Be Series
Our ever-growing series of training schemes for young people, early/mid-career artists and arts organisations interested in inclusive practise.
Centre Stage is a Theatre Creation programme working with d/Deaf and disabled artists.
It is open to SAVVY members and the wider community and will be launched in 2022 with the culmination of the initial programme showcased as part of Croydon's Borough of Culture 2023.
The main aims of the programme are to:
develop the voice of people who identify as d/Deaf and disabled, as artists and storytellers
provide a platform to explore personal stories and experiences
increase skill and understanding of theatrical conventions
showcase work-in-progress via ‘scratch nights’ with the potential of developing pieces into a more fully realised production
Keep an eye on our website and social media as further details on the programme and how to apply will be announced in the Autumn of 2022.
