On Saturday, 22nd November 2003, a cast of 8 took to the stage at The Electric Theatre, Guildford to perform a 20minute adaptation of A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM!

Notes From The Director...
When you first mention Shakespeare, most people cringe, panic or pull a funny face. I wanted to prove that his language is accessible and his stories extremely relevant. A Midsummer Nights Dream is about love. People meddling in love, confused in love, overwhelmed in love, angry in love, wanting of love ~ it is the perfect play to introduce to a group of teenagers!
As it was an extremely fast-paced ensemble piece and the first time most of the cast had actually performed Shakespeare, I deliberately had them in modern dress (thanks to Amy Mabire for the fabulous wardrobe) ~ with the lovers looking good for a night out and the magical quality of the fairies enhanced with a rollerblading Puck! The cast were comfortable in their clothes and this helped them get comfortable not only on stage, but also in their speeches. The words started making sense!

The group achieved an amazing feat with the production and I'm confident that the next time I introduce Shakespeare the reaction won't be as severe!
