Company Aims & Objectives

Through her early work with school and community groups, SAVVY’s artistic director and founder Sheree Vickers noticed that although the process of drama could be exciting and valuable for the participants, very often the presentation was arduous for the audience, as many of them only 'woke-up' when someone they knew was on the stage.

Therefore, the aim of SAVVY is to create theatre that is not only inspiring and enjoyable for those involved in its production, but one that will give the audience a worthwhile and memorable experience also.

What SAVVY Theatre aims to do...

  • to create unique, diverse, inspiring and challenging theatre and related arts projects (for both participants and audience)
  • to raise personal expectations - from participants to practitioners
  • to value each individuals commitment and contribution to SAVVY Theatre Company groups and projects
  • to recognise that every human being has the right to artistic expression
  • to value, support and enhance the creative development of local artists
  • to form a support structure that can develop individual artists beyond single projects
  • work in partnership with other organisations also committed to engaging community creative energy
  • to actively seek groups/individuals who might have little or no experience with or access to the arts
  • to actively pursue an inclusion policy that promotes true inclusion into a group for those with disabilities or additional support needs
  • to employ professionals who are passionate and professional in their craft

How SAVVY Theatre plans to achieve its aims...

  • evaluation of each individual project by those involved – this can be in the form of written feedback, verbal report sessions or documentation of the project undertaken through photographic or other digital media
  • to provide training for employed facilitators not experienced in working with people who have additional needs, supported individuals, people with disabilities or those at risk of exclusion
  • to provide information, training and to keep an open dialogue with SAVVY Young Company members and other individuals involved with SAVVY projects when including people with additional needs in the group or project
  • to ensure that venues used by the company are fully accessible to all participants
  • to develop a mentoring system where individuals will have access to practical advice and support if wanting to pursue a career in the performing arts
  • to provide opportunities for individuals to be involved in all aspects of SAVVY projects, such as marketing, production design and backstage
